2020 Mazda CX-5 Release date, Spy Pics, Specs, and Redesign. The current generation of this excellent crossover came recently, but it seems that already 2020 Mazda CX-5 will come with updates. Latest reports suggest that the compact crossover will get various improvements, including a new engine.
The history of this crossover starts in 2012. The company released a new compact crossover which made an instant success. Soon after, it was recognized as one of the class leaders. After five years of production, the company decided to do a redesign. We saw even better crossover in 2017. It came with a new design, new technologies, better in many aspects. The company already prepares further improvements. 2020 CX-5 is about to come with plenty of new things. Naturally, the biggest novelty will be a new engine and this crossover will be some of the first models to get it. New engine, expect several other novelties.
2020 MAZDA CX-5 NEW ENGINES
The biggest novelty for the 2020 Mazda CX-5 will be a new engine for sure. The company develops a new generation of gasoline engines, called SkyActive X. This crossover will be one of the first models to get it, probably right after Mazda 3. Compared to current units, the new engine will come with some significant improvements. It will have a displacement of 2.0 liters, while a max power will go probably around 185-190 horses. For comparison, a current 2.0-liter engine delivers around 155 horses. The new generation will be in a range with a bigger 2.5-liter unit when it comes to power. On the other side, it will be far more efficient. Some reports suggest a 30% compared to the current 2.0-liter engine. Roughly speaking– for a third more power, for a third more economic. Sounds great!
We are about to see a completely new engine in the offer, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 will continue to offer current engines for sure. Along with the new one, there will be three engines that are already proven. The base model will continue with the same 2.0-liter unit, which delivers around 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. An optional 2.5-liter engine has a max output of 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. There is a diesel engine available in some markets. It has a displacement of 2.2 liters, while max power goes around 173 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque. All engines come with the same six-speed automatic transmission.
2020 MAZDA CX-5 POWERTRAINS
Mazda brought finally, the CX-9 sourced 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the 2019 version. The new G-vectoring Control system came also with the turbo four engine providing better control and traction thanks to the vertical load control, varying torque and braking friction.
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 version could gain the turbodiesel engine available in some markets. A 2.2-liter turbocharged inline-4 diesel should provide around 175 hp.
Two engines available with the 2019 version will return. A naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with the fuel-saving technologies will produce 184 hp and torque of 186 lb-ft. More muscle will provide the versions with the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. The turbo-boosted engine will pump up to 250 horsepower and torque of 310 pound-feet.
The front-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic will be standard combo while the all-wheel drive will also be available.
2020 MAZDA CX-5 CHANGES
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 will come with novelties under the hood, but changes in other aspects are possible. While base design characteristics are about to stay unchanged, various tweaks are pretty much certain. We expect to see both exterior and interior changes. Speaking of the exterior design, Mazda will continue to develop its amazing KODO design language. All models from this manufacturer look amazing, but there is always enough room for further improvements. We could see some smaller improvements, usual for mid-cycle updates. Most of them should be at the front, but other areas could suffer. On the inside, few changes are possible. We probably won’t see some bigger revisions on the dash, but new color schemes and some new standard equipment are more than welcome.
2020 MAZDA CX-5 REDESIGN
While Mazda brought significant mechanical and equipment upgrades for the 2019 model year, the styling of the model remains in the form shaped by the latest redesign. The CX-5 came with the simpler and more elegant lines after the recent redesign and keeps the similar dimensions.
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 could get updated front and rear end styling as the reports indicate. The face of the model will again be defined with the shield-shaped grille and slim LED headlights. With the several new details in the front bumper section and refreshed grille and headlights, the next CX-5 should stay fresh until the next redesign.
The rear side should also get the revised taillights and bumper while the profile will keep the same shape and form.
Two new trims Mazda introduced for the 2019 version brought unique interior treatments and model gained also more tech features including the 360-degree parking view. The models also come with heated and ventilated front steals plus unique wood and dark trim accents.
The next version won’t introduce radical interior upgrades regarding the style and comfort features while there could be some tech improvements. Every CX-5 will provide Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. The base version will offer 17-inch alloy wheels, LEDs, cloth upholstery, a 7-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitors, emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alerts, etc

. Mazda’s successful CX-5 compact, crossover SUV gained a comprehensive set of upgrades for the 2019 model year and after the 2017 redesign year, the model has finally got the turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
